To anyone who feels soulslike's are not your cup of tea, haven't tried any and do not intend to - this game could be the perfect gateway to the genre; without the jank and a lenient, more conservative learning curve. I went into this expecting a brutal challenge and came out pleasantly surprised at how balanced and enjoyable ALL of the boss fights were. There was no fight that took me more than an hour to beat and when I did, the satisfaction was immense.
Game is absolutely gorgeous, the various tools at your disposal make the Sun Wukong power fantasy extremely satisfying and the visuals, boss designs are on point. My only issues with the game were its exploration, which often was unintuitive and made things VERY easy to miss. Also to anyone unfamiliar with the whole Journey to the West storyline, some lore aspects will require further reading and looking up. Overall, 10/10 and should have won GOTY no questions asked.
